Prêt wear at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion
Week
New Delhi:
Stage bathed in blue light, a sheer white curtain dividing
it and models walking the ramp in long white sterile overcoats,
kick started designer Rajesh Pratap Singh's show at the Wills
Lifestyle India Fashion Week here last evening. The unusual
beginning created quite a stir and generated curiosity, though
what followed next, was equally interesting. Simple, chic
and elegant, the collection did full justice to Rajesh's reputation,
known for his neat cuts and stylish ensembles. Sticking to
the pastel colour palette, Rajesh used white, shades of red,
black, and grey in his ensembles, which comprised his prêt-a-porter
collection for the fashion week. The western collection, comprising
of pencil trousers, tops, short dresses, ending just above
the knee, in fitted silhouettes made the collection stand
out for its muted style. "It was nothing, it was just a basic
collection. It was structured differently," said Rajesh. Meanwhile,
deviating away from his opulent self, designer JJ Valaya presented
his ready-to-wear collection for the Spring-Summer at the
fashion week. Chequered boxes in a fine blend of colours dominated
the collection comprising of long gowns, short dresses, tops,
shorts and men's shirts. Use of black in balloon tops and
knee length dresses was quite experimental by Valaya for his
summer collection. "I think geometrics are going to be one
of the key trends for next summer and amongst of course, you
see the long dresses which is the big silhouettes coming back.
Black for summer, which is rather unexpected. But internationally
if you look at the collection which is now happening almost
70 per cent of the designers actually have black in their
summer collection. So, its a statement for the summer season,"
said JJ Valaya, designer. Approximately 80 designers are showcasing
their collection in this season of 'Wills Lifestyle India
Fashion Week', one of the major business-to-business fashion
fete. The fashion week would provide 18 new designers a platform
to showcase their talent and earn a place in the glamorous
industry. The event concludes today.
