Spa culture, prominent hallmark of lifestyle in Chandigarh by
Sunil Sharma Chandigarh:
Spa culture has become the fad among a majority of the affluent families residing
in Chandigarh. Many families don't mind spending ample sums to de-stress from
their hectic lifestyle. It is said that Punjabis are well known for their desire
to live to the fullest and enjoy all the good things in life. In tune with this
notion, the elite residents of Chandigarh are not batting an eyelid to splurge
on spa treatment for healthy and happy lifestyle. Spa therapy has become a natural
choice for the rich people to indulge themselves. It is the most upcoming trend
to spend huge sum of money to get various massages and other services of natural
ingredients, such as facials, body scraps and body wraps. Besides providing physical
relaxation and mental tranquillity, spa treatment has caught the fancy of many
youth in the city. "It's very relaxing when I come to spa. It helps to distress
from the daily routine. It is recreational activity for me," said Karan Sharma,
a spa enthusiast. Oil massage and water jets that give a feeling of floating on
water, also called dry floatation are some of the popular treatments offered by
the numerous spas which have come up in the city. "I think health has become such
a big issue. With recession, you experience a lot of stress. So we do have clients.
They are coming in to get a relaxation because they are stressed out. I have not
seen slide in our clients. As a matter of fact people are stressed out with everyday
life. They are looking forward to coming to spa and get the relaxed feeling,"
noted Kumel Baath, Manager, Spa Pavonia, Chandigarh. The de-stress massages and
allied services at the spas range from rupees 1000 to 5000. -June
