Muslim fasting month of Ramzan begins
New
Delhi: The holy fasting month of Ramzan has begun
following the sighting of the new moon last evening.
"The new moon of Ramzan was sighted on Monday. Hence,
Ramzan fasting will start from Tuesday," Maulana Mufti
Mukarram, the Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri mosque here
said after a meeting of the Royat Hilal Committee
on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Mufti Mukkaram
and attended by ulemas and scholars. Muslims fast
throughout the holy month which culminates in Eid
celebrations. Devouts will exercise self-restraint
and sanctity, two core aspects of the Ramzan, through
fasting. In Kerala, the month-long day-time fasting
began on Monday, as the crescent moon heralding the
holy month of Ramzan was sighted on Sunday.
