Karzai in Delhi, meets Manmohan Singh

New Delhi: Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here today to offer his condolences for the recent Mumbai terror attacks. Bilateral issues, including cooperation in the fight against terrorism and a review of the situation in the region were also discussed during the meeting. Earlier, Karzai met External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Mukherjee said Karzai conveyed a message of solidarity and condolences on behalf of the people of Afghanistan to the Indian nation in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks. "He has come here to express his solidarity and solidarity of Afghanistan people with us on this hour. We had very good bilateral talks and we also shared our perceptions on many other areas. He will have talks with Prime Minister in respect of Pakistan and other things," Mukherjee added. Karzai arrived here on a two-day visit last evening against the backdrop of chill in Indo-Pak relations. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Rangeen Dadfar Spanta and National Security Adviser, Zalmay Rasoul. He will return home this evening. Since the November's deadly attacks in Mumbai, Afghan-India relations have gained fresh importance. This is Karzai's second visit to India in five months. Karzai visited India immediately after the suicide attack on Indian Embassy in Kabul in July, in which at least 41 people were killed.
