sworn in as Chief Justice of India

Delhi: Justice Yogesh Kumar Sabharwal was today sworn in
as the Chief Justice of India. President Dr. APJ Abdul administered
him the oath of office at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Justice Sabharwal took over the office from outgoing Chief Justice
RC Lahoti who retired from the post on October 31. Justice Sabharwal
has delivered many landmark judgments during his career in the
judiciary, including the recent Bihar Assembly dissolution case.
Born on January 14, 1942, Justice Sabharwal enrolled as an Advocate
at Delhi in 1964 and mainly practised on Civil and Constitutional
matters in the Delhi High Court. He has also been a judge and
acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and was appointed
as a Supreme Court judge in 2000.
