Monica Bedi interrogated

Hyderabad/Mumbai: A special Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) court today sent underworld don Abu Salem's girlfriend Monica Bedi to judicial custody till November 25. Bedi after being interrogated by the CBI earlier in the morning was produced before a special court which remanded her to judicial custody. She has been sent to Chanchalguda jail in the city where she is allowed to meet her advocates. A Mumbai court had on Friday sent former Bollywood actress Bedi, who is facing charges of staying in Portugal on forged documents, on a four-day transit remand and had ordered to produce her in a Hyderabad court before November 14 for the next hearing. Bedi has been booked under sections 420, 471 and 468 of IPC, 13(2) to be read with 13 (1d) of PC Act and 12 (1B) of Passport act for allegedly acquiring passports by giving fake identity in the name of Neha Jaffri and Fauzia Usman in Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh and Bhopal in 2001.

Meanwhile, the CBI has also begun questioning Abu Salem in the city who was sent to 12-day police custody by a special TADA court on Friday. According to the sources, the interrogation would likely to be in written, however, if Salem shows reluctance in written reply, his statements would be recorded thoroughly. The extradition of Salem will help in uncovering the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts and further strengthen the case against Dawood Ibrahim who has been declared as a Global Terrorist by the United States. Salem's interrogation is also expected to blow the lid off certain prominent personalities against whom the Mumbai police and the CBI had failed to gather any evidence regarding their links with the underworld. Several other major cases which are pending against Salem include the murder of music baron Gulshan Kumar in 1997, assault on filmmakers Rajeev Rai and Subhash Ghai in 1997, murder of Chembur builder Om Prakash Kukreja in 1995, murder of builder Pradeep Jain in 1994 and extortion threats to many film personalities. Both Salem and Bedi were brought to Mumbai by the CBI on Friday morning after a Lisbon court authorised their extradition.
