killed in gunbattle in Srinagar
Srinagar:
Four persons, including two civilians and equal number
of security personnel, were killed and over 10 others injured
in a crossfire between security forces and militants at Lal
Chowk area in Srinagar on Monday afternoon. The incident took
place at about 2.15 p.m. (IST) when the militants hurled a
grenade at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) headquarters
at Palladium Chowk followed by firing at the security personnel
there and at Ghanta ghar. Director General of Police Gopal
Sharma said that after the initial attack, militants entered
the Peak View hotel, where they are holed up. Their exact
number has not been ascertained as yet. Meanwhile, security
forces have cordoned off the area. No militant outfit has
so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
