Raja
Bhaiya surrenders, sent to judicial custody
Kanpur:
Former minister of Uttar Pradesh Government Raghuraj Pratap
Singh alias Raja Bhaiya surrendered before a special court
in Kanpur on Monday after the apex court quashed the state
government's withdrawal of Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA)
charges against him. Singh, who surrendered with his father
Udai Pratap Singh, has been remanded to judicial custody till
November 26. "As far as I know that I have remanded to judicial
custody till November 26, there will be discussion on the
bail," Singh told reporters on his arrival. The apex court
has transferred the trial to Madhya Pradesh and his cases
would continue under relevant sections of the already scrapped
anti-terror law. In 2003, Mulayam Singh Yadav-led government
in the State had revoked all charges made against him by former
Mayawati-led government and reinstated him as a minister.
Raja Bhaiya was booked under the anti-terror law and sent
to jail by the previous government of low-caste leader Mayawati
after guns, ammunition and unaccounted jewellery were recovered
from his residence in 2002.
