movement across LOC quake relief points
New
Delhi: India on Thursday said that the movement of people
across the five relief points opened along the Line of Control
(LoC) would be allowed this weekend. Navtej Sarna, Indian
Foreign Ministry spokesman said people would begin crossing
the border by this weekend at one of the first points on the
LoC. "The schedule for the five points which are being opened
and this will be for purposes of relief material and crossing
of people whose names have been approved. These dates have
been agreed to by Pakistan. Teetwal-Nausheri will be on November
19 and 26 and December 3 and 10, Poonch and Rawalkote crossing
point will be November 21 and December 5. Mendhar-Tatpani
on November 28 and December 12. Uri-Chakothi November 17 and
December 1. Uri-Hajipur November 24 and December 8," said
Sarna. The fifth and final crossing point on the de facto
border dividing the two countries in Uri sector to facilitate
the movement of relief material for quake-ravaged people on
both sides of the divided line was opened on Wednesday. India
and Pakistan had agreed to open five crossing points, as a
humanitarian response to the October 8 earthquake that killed
over 75,000 people, mostly in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. The
governments of both Pakistan and India had been criticised
for their hesitance in opening the border to help deliver
aid to communities cut off by landslides in the mountains
and valleys of the remote region, and to allow villagers to
visit kinfolk on the other side.
