Amisha on Indian cinema, education

     Mumbai: Bollywood actress Amisha Patel was recently felicitated by her alma mater Tufts University at a function attended by other famous alumnae such as United Nations Under Secretary General Shashi Tharoor and actor Soni Razdan. Amisha has done her graduation in Economics from Boston's Tufts University. Dressed in casuals, she impressed those present at Mumbai's Taj Mahal Hotel with a lively presentation on 'Development and Impact of Indian Cinema' - the subject under discusssion for the evening. The disucssion panel was moderated by Peter Kvetko of Tufts University, Professor of South Asian Music, Dr Shashi Tharoor, the Under Secretary General for Communication and Public Information of the United Nations. The young actress said she owed a lot to her alma mater for the person that she is. "I have held many statuettes in my hand at the Filmfare awards. This is for the first time I am holding something different - an elephant which is symbol of Tufts School. Today I am confident and educated, and this is just because of this institute," said Amisha. "It feels great to be honored in your own country by such a great University. It is great that such institutes are encouraging Bollywood,' she added.

     Talking about her movie career, she said, "I have just completed shooting for my upcoming movie 'Ankahee'. It is an issue based movie and very much performance oriented." Under Secretary General for Communications and Public Information of the United Nations, Shashi Tharoor, said globalisation has has had a great impact on Indian cinema. "Globalization has great impact on India cinema. These days Bollywood filmmakers are adopting the tendency to depict lifestyle of NRIs. The commercial aspect of Indian cinema is changing. The movie 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gaam' was very much successful overseas, so it's a very good example for filmakers," said Tharoor. Founded in 1852, Tufts University enjoys a global reputation for academic excellence and for the preparation of students as leaders in a wide range of professions.
