Heavy rain disrupts life in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Heavy rain, which resumed this morning in several districts of Tamil Nadu, has hit normal life severely with overflowing lakes and rivers and breaches in tanks. The rain, which has been pouring since last Sunday with occasional breaks, has displaced over 1.5 lakh people in Cuddalore, Tiruchirapalli and Korur districts. The local weather office had on Thursday said that the low pressure area was laying over the Arabian sea but rains were likely over many parts of the state in the next 24 hours. The Chennai-Tiruchirapalli National Highway continues to be cut off due to heavy flooding and breaches while several breaches in Vandalur lake were reported in Kancheepuram. In Tiruporur, ten villages have reportedly marooned and seven low lying bridges were submerged in rain and flood.
