EC notice to Jaya Bachchan for holding office of profit

Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday served
a notice to Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan seeking clarification
on holding an office of profit despite being a member of parliament,
official sources said. The EC in the notice has directed Bachchan
to respond to it by October 31 besides fixing a hearing on
the issue on November 28. The notice was issued following
a complaint from one Madan Mohan, who, according to the report,
had informed about the matter to the office of President APJ
Abdul Kalam. Mohan in his complaint has alleged that Bachchan
had become chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Film Development Corporation
after becoming a member of the upper house.
