Rahul Dravid to lead India against Lanka, South Africa
Mohali:
The speculation over the captaincy of the Indian cricket
team against Sri Lanka and South Africa is over now as the BCCI
has chosen Rahul Dravid to lead India in the two forthcoming
one-day international series. Talking to mediaperson after the
board meeting here on Thursday, Cricket Board secretary, S K
Nair said that the national selectors have named Rahul Dravid
as the captain of the Indian cricket team for the forthcoming
one-day series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. Dravid takes
over the captaincy from Sourav Ganguly who is struggling with
an elbow injury. He said that appointing Dravid as the captain
was a unanimous decision by the selectors. "It has nothing to
do with Ganguly. He will be considered as a player depending
on the (fitness) report which will be submitted by the physio
John Gloster on the 17th October," he said. The seven-match
one-day series against Sri Lanka begins from October 25 while
the one-day series against South Africa will be held from November
16 to 28. Ganguly has been advised rest till 17th October after
being diagnosed with "symptoms of mild tennis elbow". He was
ruled out of the Challenger Series now on at the PCA Stadium
in Mohali.
