Kolkata doctor clears Ganguly to play first class match

Kolkata: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was on Monday cleared by his orthopaedic doctor to play a Duleep Trophy match between East and North Zones from October 20. Ganguly was suffering from early tennis elbow symptoms. "He is improving. If this trends continues, and he responds to the treatment, then I see no reason why he can't play the Duleep match at Rajkot," said orthopaedic surgeon Dr.Kalyan Mukherjee. However, the final decision on whether Ganguly can participate in the match would be taken on Tuesday by Dr. Anant Joshi, the doctor and sports medicine expert attached to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Indian team's physiotherapist John Gloster would also be there when Dr. Joshi examines Ganguly's injured elbow joint. Ganguly, who missed the Challenger series in Mohali and was stripped of his Indian captaincy by the selectors last week. he has also been kept out of the first two ODIs versus Sri Lanka and can return to the national team only if he proves his fitness by playing a domestic match. Ganguly had last met Joshi and Gloster on October 7. He was then advised 10 days rest.
