Pak
yet to grant visas to Indian doctors for quake relief
Lahore:
It seems that Pakistan is reluctant in allowing Indian
doctors to carry out relief and rescue work in quake-hit PoK
(Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir) and other parts of Pakistan, as
the federal government has not yet issued visas to them. The
doctors have formed teams for an organized relief work and
are waiting for the clearance from the Pakistani government.
The Pakistan Foreign Office is likely to decide the matter
today. According to the Dawn, PPP MNA Chaudhry Manzoor contacted
the Foreign Office urging it to resolve the matter, and also
appealed to President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister
Shaukat Aziz to direct the concerned authorities to take "a
positive decision" in the wake of the misery being faced by
the quake victims. Last Monday, India had offered to jointly
carry out relief and rescue work in PoK and parts of Pakistan,
but Islamabad rejected the offer without citing any reasons,
though last week the Pakistan government decided to import
50,000 tents from India, and also asked the Indian government
to make available all the surplus tents to it.
