Third Indian consignment of relief goods to Pakistan
New
Delhi: The Indian Government flagged off the third consignment
of relief material for earthquake victims in Pakistan on Monday.
The train carrying the 182 tonnes consignment in six wagons
was flagged off by Dilip Sinha, Joint Secretary in the Ministry
of External Affairs, who is in charge of the Iran-Pakistan-
Afgahnistan (IPA) desk. Talking to reporters after flagging
off the train, which included 100 tonnes of fortified biscuits,
10 tonnes of medicines, 9.5 tonnes of plastic sheets, 250
tents and 26 tonnes of blankets, Sinha said that the consignment
would reach Lahore via the Wagah border crossing on Tuesday
morning. Asked whether the Indian Government would be sending
more aid to Pakistan, Sinha said: "We have sent three consignments
of aid to Pakistan so far. Should the Pakistan Government
request us to send more aid, we would be happy to do so."
Earlier, the first consignment of the relief material (25
tonnes) was sent by air on October 10 and the second consignment
of 68 tonnes by train on October 14.
