Bus falls into pond in Assam, 35 feared dead
Moraigaon
(Assam): A passenger bus veered off the road and fell
into a pond, killing about 40 people in Assam on Tuesday,
police said. The bus, carrying around 50 passengers, was completely
submerged and only 10 bodies had been recovered due to torrential
rains, they added. However, ten passengers managed to jump
out before the bus sank. "PWD (Public Works Department) engineers
had been warned of the deteriorating condition of the bridge
but nothing has been done, leading to such an incident," said
Ramjyoti, a passenger. The accident took place at Morigaon,
about 80 km from Guwahati.
