Lalu, Rabri charged
for violating poll code
Patna:
The Election Commission has initiated proceedings against
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railways Minister Lalu
Prasad Yadav for violation of model code of conduct. Lalu
had visited the venue of a public meeting in Mahua in Vaishali
in a vehicle without any number plate to campaign for his
party candidate in Mahua. An Executive Magistrate and an Inspector
of Mahua police station have ben suspended for allowing Lalu
Yadav to use the vehicle without number plate. The vehicle
belonged to the RJD nominee for Mahua, Shivchandra Ram. Lalu
Yadav is alleged to have used the vehicle to reach the helipad
at Cherhakal in Mahua block where he addressed an election
rally. The District Magistrate has also directed the concerned
police station to file an FIR against Shivchandra Ram for
violation of the election code. The officers in charge of
Rajapakar, Jurawanpur, Desri and Patepur police stations were
also suspended and directed to report at Vaishali police lines
for not strictly enforcing the provisions of the model code,
Hans added.
In another
case in Vaishali, an FIR was filed against Rabri Devi, former
Chief Minister of Bihar and wife of Lalu Yadav, on Thursday
for allegedly violating the model code of conduct, Vaishali
District Magistrate-cum-District Election Officer, Sanjiv
Hans, said. According to Hans, Vaishali's district administration
registered the case against Rabri for not taking permission
for moving in a convoy of over 30 vehicles and using loudspeakers
and musical bands while going to file her nomination for Raghopur
Assembly seat on October 4.
Meanwhile,
RJD candidate in Belaganj and former minister Surendra Yadav
has been arrested for carrying firearms under Tekari police
station area in Gaya. Four rifles were recovered from him.
Although he had licenece, he had not taken prior permission
from concerned authorities to move with firearms in election
time.. A case has been registered.
