Bihar registers case against Cabinet Minister JPN Yadav

Jamui (Bihar): Police in Bihar's Jamui District registered a case against Union Minister of State for Water Resources Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav on Saturday for allegedly facilitating the release from prison of his younger brother Vijay Prakash who was booked under non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act. Bihar police had arrested Vijay, who is a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate for Jamui, on October 18 for carrying a rifle, Rs 6.68 lakh (14,833 dollars) in cash and 50 bottles of liquor during the poll. However, Yadav was released within two hours of his arrest by the Khaira Police Station in Jamui district despite being booked under non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Acts. Jamui Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar had suspended the officer in-charge Mukteshwar Prasad for releasing Yadav, while the Inspector General of Police (Bhagalpur), N C Dhondiyal, was removed following orders from the Election Commission for their alleged involvement in securing "illegal release" of Vijay. The Election Commission had on Thursday directed the Bihar Police to re-arrest Vijay and take necessary action against those involved in the case.
