Communal violence rocks Agra

Agra: Violence broke out in Agra on Sunday after a Muslim woman alleged a Hindu shopkeeper had misbehaved with her, sparking massive clashes between the two communities. At least a dozen people, eyewitnesses said, have been injured as police fired into the air to control what had become a roof top stone-throwing contest. Hundreds of men and young boys climbed atop their homes and sent huge bricks, glass bottles and even chairs hurling at each other. The clashes broke out in the communally sensitive Jama Masjid area, the old quarters of Agra. A historical city, Agra served as a capital to the Mughals during the 16th century and is most famous for the Taj Mahal.
