Khokhropar-Munabao rail track to be ready by January
Islamabad:
The Pakistan Railways (PR) has completed 75 percent of
the up-gradation work on the Khokhrapar-Munabhao railway track,
and the work would be completed by January 2006, rail officials
have said. Quoting the officials, the Daily Times reported
that as per schedule, this section would be opened in January
2006. They said that the 135 km-long railway track was to
be converted from narrow gauge to broad gauge, and that the
work of broadening the gauge was going on a great pace. Both
the countries had in principle agreed to reopen the rail link
during the visit of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf to
India in April. Later, the issue was also discussed during
Indian External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh's visit to
Pakistan. It was originally scheduled to be reopened this
month, but has now been rescheduled for January as the work
of upgradation and broadening of the gauges was still in progress.
