J and K Congress MLAs resign demanding change of CM

     New Delhi: Demanding change of guard in Jammu and Kashmir, all the 19 Congress Members of Legislative Assembly in the state have reportedly tendered resignations to the state assembly Speaker Tara Chand in New Delhi today. According to sources, the 19 MLAs forwarded their resignations to Chand seeking change of guard from the Peoples' Democratic Party to Congress as per its schedule, which falls on November two. "We hope that she would definitely take a decision, which would benefit congress party and nation at large," they said. The MLAs further added that if the Congress does not to keep the promise made to Jammu constituency on change of power and installation of a Jammu Chief Minister, they would face rout in next assembly elections. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said decision regarding change of guard in Jammu and Kashmir would be taken "soon". "You will come to know soon", he told reporters in the capital today. As per the power sharing agreement between the Congress and Sayeed's People`s Democratic Party (PDP), Sayeed's tenure was reportedly extended to January 2006 from November 2005, but, according to sources, he refused it. However, later Sayeed had made an announcement that the agreement reached between the Congress and PDP over the issue of sharing of power would be implemented "in letter and spirit". Also, Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is a contender for the Chief Minister`s post, had earlier said that the change of guard in the state would take place as scheduled.
