Suicide car bombers kill one soldier in Jammu and Kashmir
Zainakot
(Jammu and Kashmir): A suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden
car into a bus carrying troops in Kashmir on Wednesday, killing
one soldier and wounding 15, a paramilitary official said.
The attack on a bus carrying Border Security Force (BSF) troops
took place at Zainakot area, on the Srinagar-Baramullah National
Highway, officials said. K.Srinivasan, Deputy Inspector General
of BSF, said there could be more casualties considering the
initial damages. "The blast was so serious that we thought
that the casualty would be around two to three. It happened
at around 2.45 p.m. (IST) when a car, parked here, suddenly
rammed into a BSF bus which was passing through the highway,
damaging the bus," said Srinivasan. Officials said that Hizbul
Mujahideen, the banned militant outfit, has taken the responsibility.
Separatist violence has continued in Kashmir despite the region
being struck by a deadly earthquake this month, which killed
54,000 people, mostly across the frontier in Pakistani Kashmir.
Analysts say militants are trying to reinforce that they can
still strike despite losing many of their own in the earthquake
as India has said it was confident many rebel camps were destroyed
in Pakistani occupied Kashmir.
