Reddy mourns death of Hindi writer Nirmal Verma

Delhi: Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting
and Culture S. Jaipal Reddy on Wednesday condoled the death
of eminent Hindi writer Nirmal Verma and termed him as "one
of the greatest writers in Hindi". In his message, Reddy said,
"I am deeply pained to learn of the passing away of noted
Hindi litterateur Nirmal Verma. He was one of the greatest
writers in Hindi. He will be remembered for his special contribution
in creating new symbolisms in Hindi writings, yet retaining
simplicity of style. His creativity extended to prose, friction,
short stories as well as travelogues". He further added, "Nirmal
Verma was a fearless writer and a true champion of the freedom
of expression. His literary genius was recognized with Sahitya
Akademi Award, Jnanpith Award and Padam Shree, besides several
other national and international awards. "His writings were
translated in English and Gujarati and became widely popular
among the readers of these languages also. His demise is a
great loss to the literary world".
