Dhoni
takes India to victory in third ODI at Jaipur
Jaipur:
India today comfortably beat Sri Lanka by six wickets
with 23 balls to spare to take a 3-0 lead in the seven match
series. Wicket keeper Mahendra Dhoni smashed a record-breaking
and a career best 183 to take India to 303-4 in 46.1 overs,
hitting as many as 10 sixes and 16 fours. Earlier in the day,
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first with Kumar
Sangakkara hitting a career-best 138 not out to raise Sri
Lankan hopes. He hit 13 fours and two sixes in his 147- ball
effort. India, however, began the innings on a shaky note,
losing the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar in the very first over
itself. Tendulkar edged the ball to wicket keeper Sangakkara,
while trying to drive a wide delivery of Chaminda Vaas. He
went out for two and India were reduced to seven for one.
Dhoni along with Sehwag went on an all out assault on the
Lankan bowlers and scored his half century in the 12th over
in just 40 balls. Sehwag went out for 39 off 37 balls and
then it was left to Dhoni to steer the team to victory. He
went on scoring and reached his second ODI century in just
85 balls with nine hits to the fence and five huge sixes.
Skipper Dravid and Yuvraj Singh also got out and Dhoni along
with Venugopal Rao saw India march to victory. He finished
his innings in style, hitting a huge six to see India win
the match. He was declared the man of the match.
