Scratching can help control women's loo urges

Sydney: Giving birth plays havoc on a woman's bladder movements, for not many can control that desperate urge to run to the loo. Now however, a physiotherapist has come to their aid by revealing that all women need to do to hold on just a bit longer is vigorously scratching the back of their leg. Janetta Webb, a continence expert who works for the Jean Hailes Foundation for Women's Health that is working with the Continence Foundation of Australia to raise awareness of continence problems, said that scratching or rubbing the back of the calf vigorously for a few minutes will give women those precious minutes to find the nearest loo. "If you scratch or rub the back of your calf for a few moments, really vigorously, you may interrupt the message from your bladder to your brain just long enough for you to make it to the toilet," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted her, as saying. However, she insists that pelvic floor exercises are still the only way to improve incontinence, and stressed to see a doctor if they have this problem. "It is treatable and an important part of this treatment is strengthening your pelvic floor," she said. "Seek professional help, even if you have been dismissing it as just a small problem. It's never normal at any age or stage of life," she added. Other than childbirth, causes of incontinence can also include lifting and straining, being overweight, a chronic cough, menopause, diabetes, back pain, stroke, surgery, some medications, constipation and neurological conditions.

Donnie Yen tipped to play Bruce Lee (Go To Top)

Washington: Chinese actor Donnie Yen is being tipped to play Kung Fu legend Bruce Lee in an upcoming biopic produced by the late actor's family. Yen, a self-confessed fan of the martial arts hero, admits he's been in talks for the part but has doubts about any actor's suitability for the challenging role. "I've been contacted to play Bruce Lee but talks are only at an early stage. I don't think anyone can play Bruce Lee. There's too much pressure to play him, he was quoted by Contactmusic, as saying. "There would be a lot of preparations to do; I would have to make sure I'm fit. It's very difficult to play Bruce Lee, it's almost impossible. Of course I'm very interested in playing the role but I would like to finish my current projects first. I would have to think about it first," he added. Lee's brothers and sisters will produce the film, which will begin shooting next year (07).

Rowling resolves the Potter tangle (Go To Top)

Washington: After battling with boy wizard Harry Potter's future, the woman who created him, author JK Rowling revealed that she has finally reached her 'resolution', and that she can now 'resolve' the story in the seventh and final book. Speaking to reporters in New York, the British author said that by reaching a 'resolution', she was at last feeling 'quite liberated'. "It's the last book so I feel quite liberated. I can resolve the story now and it's fun, fun in a way that wasn't because finally I've reached my resolution," E!Online quoted her, as saying. She added that the seventh, and as yet untitled, final book will hold a lot of surprises that will leave some people loving it, and others loathing it. "Some people will loathe it and some people will love it, but that's how it should be," she added. "We're working towards the end I always planned, but a couple of characters I expected to survive have died, and one character got a reprieve," she added.

Top authors plead for Potter's life (Go To Top)

Washington: While Harry Potter fans all around the world wait with bated breath to see what JK Rowling has in store for the boy wizard in the seventh and final book, authors such as John Irving and Stephen King have joined the bandwagon pleading the author not to kill the wizard. The duo has now launched a campaign to prevent Rowling from killing Potter in the seventh book, and is confident that they can persuade the British author. Speaking at a New York press conference, where the Rowling, Irving and King were staging a charity reading, Irving said that he was keeping his fingers crossed in the boy wizard's favour. "My fingers are crossed for Harry," Contactmusic quoted him, as saying.
