James
Bond has found his villain (Go
To Top)
Washington:
Casino Royale director Martin Campbell has finally confirmed
that Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen will play the evil Le Chiffre
in the 21st James Bond installment. The confirmation was
made by the "Royale" filmmakers at a press conference held
Wednesday in Prague, where shooting on "Casino Royale" has
already begun, reports Zap2it. The 40-year-old Mikkelsen
may be vaguely familiar to international audiences from
his small role in "King Arthur" and a larger part in "Wilbur
Wants to Kill Himself." His big break came in 1996's "Pusher."
The character he will play in the Bond flick, La Chiffre
is a fascinating and abhorrent character, a debauched pornographer,
pimp, gambler and Holocaust survivor. However, Campbell
made no effort to put a stop to the suspense about which
actress will play the mysterious Vesper Lynde Bond girl.
Word is that Eva Green and Olivia Wilde are the top contenders.

Dr Zhivago to be made in Russia (Go

Washington:
A Russian director is all set to make a new indigenous
film version of the 1965 classic Dr Zhivago, in a bid to
correct the inaccuracies in the Academy Award-winning US
movie. David Lean's film starring Omar Sharif and Julie
Christie scooped five Oscars and is regularly ranked among
the top movies of all time, but its Western approach to
a classic Russian story has long been criticised in the
homeland of author Bosris Pasternak. Director Aleksander
Proshkin hopes his eleven-part TV movie, with an all-Russian
cast, will re-dress the balance. "It is a wonderful US film
that belongs in its time. But it is American. it does not
portray the reality of Russia. It is Russia through Anglo-Saxon
eyes. In fact, it's neither Russia nor Pasternak," Proshkin
was quoted by Contactmusic,as saying. "It's like when our
actors play an American or Englishman. There are certain
things that just can't be captured," he added. Dr Zhivago
follows a wealthy doctor and poet's attempts to find love
against the backdrop of the 1917 Russian Revolution.Because
the movie was made in the midst of the Cold War, it had
to be filmed in Finland and Spain rather than Russia and
Siberia.
