Delhi blast accused shot dead in Baramulla

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday shot dead in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander, allegedly involved in the Diwali-eve blasts in Delhi on October 29. This has come as a major breakthrough in the Delhi blasts case. Co-conspirator in the incident is believed to be holed up at the encounter site, Inspector General of Police K Rajendra Kumar said. In the battle between the militants and the security personnel one Lashkar commander, Abdullah Bhai alias Abu Huzeifa, was killed in an operation in Khour area while another, Abu Zar, was holed up, Kumar said.

The IGP said the two who masterminded the Delhi blasts, were top commanders of Lashkar operating in north Kashmir. Kumar told that the Delhi Police had passed on the information they got from Tariq Ahmed Dar, who was picked up from Srinagar in November last year. On October 29, 2005, three blasts ripped through Delhi's busy markets, killing at least 55 and injuring 155, including foreigners. The first explosion took place in the busy Paharganj market. Minutes later another explosion rocked Sarojini Nagar Market in South Delhi, where maximum casualties were reported. Another blast took place 10-km further south in the Govindpuri area. The blasts are suspected to be the handiwork of banned Pakistan- based Lashker-e-Toiba outfit. In a major breakthrough, Tariq Ahmed Dar, believed to be involved in multiple blasts in Delhi on October 29, was arrested by the central security agency. Dar, a resident of Solina in Srinagar, was arrested by the Intelligence Bureau sleuths from the Gas Turbine terminal at Pampore in South Kashmir's Pulwama district and was later handed over to the Delhi Police. On November 24 two more Lashkar-e-Toiba activists were arrested in connection with the Delhi serial blasts. Ghulam Ahmed Khan and Rafiq were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir by a Delhi police team on the basis of information provided by Tariq Ahmed Dar. According to police sources, Khan and Rafiq have been instrumental in arranging funds for carrying out the blasts in Sarojini Nagar and Paharganj markets besides the one in a bus.
