Mallika Sherawat meets Baba Ramdev

    Mumbai: Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat, along with flute maestro Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia met famous yoga guru Baba Ramdev at a camp organised by Patanjali Yog Peeth in Mumbai recently. Talking about yoga, Baba Ramdev, who was in the news recenltly over controversial reports alleging that he was using animal bones in his Ayurvedic medicines said, "Yoga is the best way to beautify the body and soul." "I think people, who come to my camp, must have been awakened by my preaching. I just teach Yoga in various programmes organised by different organisers. I have nothing to do with the presence of any particular person in my camp," he added. People of all ages thronged to the Yog Vigyan Shibir (Yoga Science Camp) that was organised by Patanjali Yog Peeth at the BKC ground at Bandra.

Ganguly not selected for ODIs against Pakistan (Go To Top)

    Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced a 15-member squad for the five one- dayers against Pakistan starting next month. Left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan replacing Railways' J P Yadav is the only change from the squad that drew 2-2 with South Africa in November last year. Zaheer had missed India's last two one-day series. Speaking to newspersons after announcing the team, BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said: "We decided to retain the combination that played against Sri Lanka and South Africa. This is the best team we have chosen". Among the fast bowlers, the squad includes Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, R P Singh and S Sreesanth, apart from Zaheer Khan. Former skipper Sourav Ganguly has not been picked for the ODI series while Mohammad Kaif has been brought in along with Suresh Raina, Murali Kartik, and S Sreesanth. VVS Laxman, Anil Kumble, Wasim Jaffer and Parthiv Patel, who currently in the Test team touring Pakistan, have also not found favour with the selectors for the ODIs. On being asked whether the non-selection of Ganguly, Laxman and Kumble meant a final curtain on their ODI career, he said: "it is not the case". Shah also made is clear that Kerala speedster Sreesanth had no injury scare and was cleared by the team physiotherapist John Gloster. However, V R V Singh and Ashish Nehra were to recover from their injuries, he said. The 15-member Indian squad includes - Rahul Dravid (captain), Virender Sehwag (vice captain), Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Mohd Kaif, Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, R P Singh, Murali Kartik, Harbhajan Singh, S Sreesanth. India is slated to play the five one-dayers at - Peshawar on February 6, Rawalpindi on February 11, Lahore on February 13, Multan on February 16 and Karachi on February 19.

Bhupathi, Hingis win Australian Open (Go To Top)

     Melbourne: Indian tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi and 1997 Wimbledon singles champion Martina Hingis won the mixed doubles at the 2006 Australian Open, beating the Canadian and Russian pair of Daniel Nestor and Russian Elena Likhovtseva 6-3, 6-3 at the Melbourne Park on Sunday. The win was Bhupathi's third straight mixed doubles Grand Slam victory after winning the Wimbledon and US Open with France's Mary Pierce and Slovakia's Daniel Hantuchova in 2005. It was however, Bhupati's first win at the Australian Open mixed doubles titles. Bhupathi now owns six Grand Slam mixed doubles titles, all with different partners. Elsewhere Hingis, who rejoined the WTA Tour earlier this month following a three-year retirement, lost to Kim Clijsters in three sets in the women's singles quarterfinals in Melbourne. The 25-year-old Hingis is a five-time Grand Slam singles champion and nine- time major doubles titlist. Today's win marks her first-ever mixed doubles Grand Slam championship.
