Beckham's bling is safe from the tax man (Go To Top)

London: England soccer captain David Beckham's designer lifestyle doesn't come cheap, and it appears that he must always be looking for ways to save his massive fortune from the tax man. According to a report by the Daily Mail, superstars such as Beckham , Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen, all of whom have stratospheric salaries and equally lucrative endorsements, can exploit a British tax loophole, which effectively states that any purchases that contribute to a footballer's public image can potentially be written off as a legitimate business expense. Many fans will find this quite extraordinary, but players like Becks and his colleagues almost always go laughing to the bank, safe from the taxman's dragnet. Beckham brings in over 17 million pounds a year by trading on his status as a global style icon - does not necessarily have to dip into his 70 million pound personal fortune for his diamond ear studs, designer wardrobe and frequent trips to the hairdressers. Beckham earns 116,000 pounds a week at Real Madrid - also enjoys substantial tax breaks offered to foreign nationals living in Spain. The millions he makes from advertising deals for firms such as Adidas and Pepsi flow through his private management company Footwork Productions which is subject to corporation tax in the UK ranging from 19 to 30 per cent. Tax experts believe the loophole - which is perfectly legal - could even extend to players' sports cars which also contribute to their celebrity image. Michael Owen, currently sponsored by Umbro and Dominos Pizza, has seen the balance of Owen Promotions grow to 3.6million pounds.

New Superman actor Brandon Routh, who will be taking up the movie role was recently voted the year's second most exciting homosexual icon by editors of US gay magazine Out, just behind Paris Hilton.
