Interim
reports on quota issue on anvil

Delhi: The 13-member Oversight Committee set up to prepare
a road map for the implementation of 27 per cent quota for
the Other Backward Classes met in the capital today. Talking
to the media persons after the meeting, M Veerappa Moily,
Chairman of the Oversight Committee said that a number of
suggestions had come on various issues concerning the implementation
of 27 per cent quota for the OBCs and this will be finalised
soon. "Today, the main issue which we discussed was to holding
a national consultation on July 10. We have discussed about
the theme and number of suggestions came as to what are the
issues to be discussed. And we are finalising by evening today..,"
said Moily.
Further, the Committee has also decided to bring out an interim
report to the government and has asked heads of all the institutions
for inputs to finalise the interim report. "We have decided
that we must produce an interim report to the government.
We are, in fact, written letters to all the chairmen of the
various.. that they should give the inputs by working out
a road map by finalising the interim report by June 23. But
they make sometime and that's why we have extended the date,"
confirmed Moily. He also added that the interests of students
belonging to the general category as well as the OBCs will
be considered while working on the road map for interim report.
The Oversight Committee will submit it's final report on July
10.
