Govt in crisis as three ministers resign
Lucknow:
Three ministers, who were once affiliated with the Bahujan
Samaj Party, resigned from the Mulayam Singh Government
on Wednesday following Tuesday's adverse judgement by the
Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court derecognising
the split in the BSP in 2003. Jaiveer Singh, Surendra Vikram
Singh and Dharm Pal Singh, all Ministers of State, met Uttar
Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar and submitted their resignations
stating that after the High Court judgement they had been
"reverted back" to the BSP and hence they would not like
to continue in their ministerial posts. They were led by
BSP Legislature Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya, who said
that one MLA Ramji Shukla was also present along with the
three ministers and expressed faith in the leadership of
BSP supremo Mayawati. Maurya claimed that of the 40 MLAs,
who had been "reverted back" to the BSP fold, many others
were also going to join their parent organisation. He also
claimed that the Mulayam Singh Yadav government had been
reduced to a minority and deserved to be dismissed so that
fresh elections could be held in the state.
