Jessica murder witnesses interrogated
New
Delhi: Twelve people were questioned by the Delhi Police
today in connection with the sensational Jessica Lall murder
case. Special Commissioner (Investigations) U.K. Katna told
reporters: "Twelve people have been interrogated today relating
to the Jessica Lal murder case" Not commenting on how long
the investigation will continue Katna said: "Every time
we question, new things emerge", but did not comment further.
Among the twelve people questioned by Delhi Police, two
are policemen and the list also included Bina and Malini
Ramani, the main witnesses of the 1999 murder when Mannu
Sharma, the son of a Haryana Minister, Venod Sharma, allegedly
shot Jessica at point blank range after she refused to serve
alcohol to him. Earlier, the Ramanis, the owner of the Tamarind
Court restaurant where the murder took place, met Delhi
Police Chief K.K.Paul on Monday and assured him of full
cooperation in the reinvestigation of the case. Some sections
in the media reported that today's interrogation was carried
out in the premises of the Tamarind Court itself. Last week,
Delhi Police had filed an appeal in the Court against the
acquittal of all the nine accused in the murder of the model
seven years ago. The prime accused Mannu Sharma is the son
of the Haryana Minister, Benod Sharma. The prosecution case
weakened after a series of high profile witnesses started
turning hostile including model and film actor Shyan Munshi
who at time was an aspiring model. Delhi Police meanwhile
have assured Ramanis and other witnesses that they will
provided with full police protection if they demanded. .
