Josh Lucas to uncover Pearl murder

Washington: Actor Josh Lucas is all set to uncover the truth about why American journalist Daniel Pearl was really murdered, in an upcoming new thriller. The new, as yet untitled movie, is based on the book 'Who Killed Daniel Pearl' by French author Bernard-Henri Levy, in which the writer speculates about the murder of the journalist, and suggests that Pearl may have been murdered because he uncovered information he shouldn't have, reports Contactmusic. The film starring Josh Lucas will be the first of two new movies about the journalist. Warner Brothers is also planning to adapt a book by Pearl's widow Marianne into another film. Daniel Pearl was kidnapped in Pakistan and killed in 2002.

Banned Hendrix biopic back (Go To Top)

Washington: They may have lost the right to use his music in a biopic of legendary singer Jimi Hendrix unless they are granted permission by his sister Janie, but American producers insist that the project was going forward. Elle Von Lear, the executive producer at Dragonslayer Films said that even though a British court decided that they first needed the permission of Experience Hendrix to use the rockers music, the biopic will go on as planned as they appeal the ruling. "The biopic is moving forward as planned, and it is not affected by the court's decision, which is being appealed," Ratethemusic quoted her, as saying. She added that Dragonslayer Films hoped to prove beyond any doubt that copyrights of the recordings they were looking forward to using in the film belongs not to the Hendrix estate, but to Brit John Hillman. "In the summer of 1966, Chas Chandler - the bass player in the rock group The Animals - called John Hillman to inform him of a remarkable young guitarist, Jimi Hendrix, he had found in New York, insisting that Hillman bring him to London. A plane ticket was sent, and when Jimi arrived in London, he made a rapid succession of recordings for the Yameta record label, owned by Hillman... Yameta acquired the copyrights in the songs and in the recordings, in accordance with British law," she added.

Call for action against 'Da Vinci Code' (Go To Top)

London: The Catholic Church's war against the movie adaptation of author Dan Brown's bestselling novel 'Da Vinci Code' just intensified after a leading cardinal urged the faithful to take legal action against both the book, and the movie. Cardinal Francis Arinze, in a TV documentary called 'The Da Vinci Code - A Masterful Deception', made for the Catholic film agency Rome Reports, is due to be shown in the Italian capital, urged Christians the world over to take an aggressive stand against the book. "Any film produced on the basis of that book is already in error from the word go, no matter how interesting it might appear," The BBC quoted him, as saying. "Christians must not just sit back and say it is enough for us to forgive and to forget. Sometimes it is our duty to do something practical. Those who blaspheme Christ and get away with it are exploiting the Christian readiness to forgive and to love even those who insult us," he said. Nigeria-born Arinze, who is well-known to be an extreme conservative on moral issues, said that Christians should follow the example of other religions who would not tolerate any 'blasphemy' against their 'founder'. "There are some other religions which if you insult their founder they will not be just talking," he said. "This is one of the fundamental human rights - that we should be respected, our religious beliefs respected, and our founder Jesus Christ respected," Cardinal Arinze added. The movie adaptation of the book starring Tom Hanks will be hitting theatres across the globe later this month.

Berry's sex scenes in Perfect Stranger (Go To Top)

Washington: Sexy siren Halle Berry had to have sex with herself in new movie "Perfect Stranger," as her onscreen bed-partner Bruce Willis couldn't reach the set. The Oscar winner was forced to squirm around on a bed while the crew played a tape recording of Willis' voice. Editors later used computer technology to put the pair together - the first time the technique has been used for a sex scene. Sources claim that Halle has acted out the love-making scene so convincingly that it doesn't seem she is actually alone in the bed. "Halle wasn't phased performing solo. Although she, in effect, keeps her hands to herself, she is very convincing indeed in the love scenes," Contactmusic quoted an insider, as saying.
