J-Lo fuels pregnancy rumours: concert off (Go To Top)

Washington: Jennifer Lopez has sparked pregnancy rumours after abruptly cancelling the first concert of her world tour without giving any kind of explanation. The cancellation of the concert, which was to be held in Bulgaria on May 8, came just a day after she appeared at the ALMA Awards in Los Angeles on 7 May, with what appeared to be a baby bump. Sources told American In Touch magazine that Lopez is reportedly three months pregnant, and that the baby will be born around Christmas. However, while the singer may be ecstatic over the news, the promoters of the Bulgarian concert are not smiling over the cancelled performance, and are now threatening her with legal action. Bulgarian promoter Nina Girginova said that Lopez's fans deserved some kind of explanation for the cancellation. "Whatever the reason is, she should have explained it, and even if she had lied it would have been better than not giving the fans any reason at all," Contactmusic quoted her, as saying. Lopez was supposed to perform in Mumbai (Bombay), India; Dubai; Moscow, Russia: Sofia, Bulgaria; Istanbul, Turkey; and Thessaloniki, Greece this month.

London: The bidding war for Elvis Presley's old house is finally over with psychic Uri Geller emerging the victor following a 481,250 pound bid on auction website eBay. Geller, who originally bid 159,000 pounds in April before a bidding war ensued, teamed up with New York lawyer Jim Gleason and English jeweller Lisbeth Silvandersson, in order to raise the bid. Geller said that the trio were extremely pleased with the outcome. "We're unbelievably pleased. This is a piece of history," the Mirror quoted him, as saying. Geller, who is superstitious about the number 11, said that he was sure that they had won the bidding when the message he sent Gleason turned out to be the eleventh one he had sent, and when the radio started playing Elvis. "As bidding closed, I texted Gleason and it was 11 on my mobile and the radio started playing Elvis. That was Elvis telling me we got the house!" he added. Geller revealed that they now play to restore the property, which has been occupied by private owners since Elvis sold it to its old 'glory'. "We intend to restore it to its old glory. We'd like to bring sick children there for tours. Hopefully one day we might get approval to turn it into a museum," he said. Women told to have home deliveries! (Go To Top)

London: England is moving towards a childbirth revolution which would falsify the mis-belief that deliveries at hospitals or maternity homes were safer than at home. As per estimates, about 47 per cent of women in England and 38 per cent in Scotland give birth at home without medical intervention, though childbirth groups in England believe that up to 70 per cent of the English women could deliver safely at home. Even the Health Department has taken up the initiative to remove the misconception from among the Englishwomen, as the country's Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt is to "challenge the assumption", prevalent since the 1970s, that the safest place to give birth is in hospital and that home births can be dangerous, reports The Independent.

According to the paper, in what is being billed as a historic shift in the politics of childbirth, "doctors will be told to offer all pregnant women the chance to deliver their baby at home with the help of a midwife and their own choice of pain relief". The report said that that the British Government was planning a "strategic shift" in the childbirth policy away from hospital delivery and towards births in the reassuring surroundings of home. It has commissioned research to support the case for home births and "challenge the assumption that births should take place in hospitals". The Secretary of State wants to "de- medicalise" pregnancy and challenge the "presumption" that birth should take place under the supervision of a doctor, added the paper. "A strategic shift towards more home births is part of the Government's move for more care to be provided in the community and in the home, and away from acute hospitals," it quoted a Health Department source as saying. "At long last the whole movement into hospitals in the 1970s and belief that home births was unsafe, which was based on incorrect statistics, looks as if it may end," chief executive of the National Childbirth Trust, Belinda Phipps reportedly said adding "It has taken decades for this issue to be taken seriously, even though the evidence has built over the decades that having birth at home is as safe or safer than in hospital."
