Gaushala: A home for orphaned cows

Coimbatore: Coimbatore has a home for orphaned cows. The Gaushala has animals which have been adopted or donated. The cattle shed currently caters to more than 700 heads of cattle. "At present we have 10 sheds which are complete and seven are temporary. We accommodate 724 animals in this Goushala. We provide them with dry fodder, green fodder and other types of feeds. The daily expenditure is approximately 30,000 rupees," said Daxesh, in-charge of the shed. Besides giving fodder and nutrient-rich water the shed also has employed qualified veterinarians to look after the animals. The cowshed is run by people from the Jain community who have migrated from Gujarat.
