Police arrest five for abetting child marriage in Agra

     Agra: Police in Agra have arrested five people for abetting child marriage. Police raided the venue before the marriage of 13-year-old Monika and 30-year-old Netrapal could be solemnized on Wednesday. The girl's parents along with three relatives have been taken into custody. "I was about to get married but could not. They had just performed a ritual but they had to return without performing any. I did not want to get married," Monika said. Monika's mother Sunita said the marriage was to happen only after she would have turned an adult. "We thought that we will perform the rituals now and then later on after five years we will get her married when she is adult," she said. Area sub-inspector KP Singh said that hunt was on for more people involved in the crime. "As we received information of a marriage being organised here, we arrested the accused. We are in search for more people who are suspected to have been involved in the marriage," he said.
