RBI to issue new Rs 500 notes
Mumbai:
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon issue Rs 500 denomination
banknotes with additional security features in Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005.
"The new banknotes will carry inset letter `L' in both numbering panels
in Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 with additional/new security features,"
RBI said in a statement here on Tuesday. Except for the change in the
inset letter, the design of these notes to be issued now is similar in
all respects to the banknotes issued earlier in Mahatma Gandhi Series
issued on October 21, 2005. "All banknotes in the denomination of Rs 500
issued by the Bank will continue to be legal tender," it said.
