Metro rail for Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai Hyderabad:
The centre has cleared much awaited proposal for Metro Rail projects
in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Union Minister for Urban Development
Jaipal Reddy revealed this here on Friday during his inaugural address
at `Cityscapes 2006', a meet on Urban infrastructure reforms with public-private
linkages, being organised by the Federation of India Chamber of Commerce
and Industry (FICCI). In his speech he said, metro rail projects in Hyderabad,
Mumbai and Banglore can take off immediately. Centre would provide viability
gap funding for the projects in various states, he said. However, the
Minister said that the choice of deciding about the nature of gauge to
be adopted in the metro rail projects has been given to state governments.
The project proposals were pending as the differences between Indian Railways
state governments about the gauge was not solved. The Indian Railways
was favouring adoption of broad gauge for Metro Rail projects while many
state governments were supporting standard gauge. |
