Tourists flock to Solang nullah in Himachal Pradesh

Solang Nullah (Himachal Pradesh): Solang Nullah in Himachal Pradesh has become one of the major tourist attractions in the northern India this season following the first heavy snowfall of the season in recent days. Situated 17 kilometers from Manali, domestic and foreign tourists are flocking Solang Nullah where slopes offer an ideal setting for skiing.

Scores of tourists, especially honeymoon couples, are visiting the hill station to experience the snowfall. "We just skid, my husband fell down a number of times but we kept skiing. We are having a great time. Manali is really a beautiful place and now I am planning to paraglide," said Dezi, a tourist from Darjeeling. "We have come to India for a couple of months and we are staying in Manali for three days. We have come to check out the slopes and I am going to stay for some more days. My friend saw it for the first time. She is having an awesome time," added Sheh, another tourist from Australia.

Other than skiing, sports like para-gliding and snow motor racing are also being organised to attract tourists. Himachal Pradesh boasts of some of India's best ski slopes. But skiing enthusiasts cite lack of adequate infrastructure as a big drawback. Despite the hiccups, the slopes of Himachal Pradesh are still the Indian skiiers' favourite destination. The Solang Nullah, along with the villages of Palchan and Kothi, is located at different points at the head of the Kullu Valley. The Manali-Rohtang road splits into two here - one taking off for Kothi and the Rohtang pass and the other taking off for Solang, about five kilometres away. For accommodation, there are heated dormitories in Bukhari. Many tourists descend upon the Nullah, and a whole number of noodle and boiled egg joints spring up overnight to cater for this crowd. This tourist destination offers a unique experience which is even wonderful for people who had visited this place in summers. A recent sporting craze to have hit this area is snowboarding and the locals are catching on fast. There is always a lot to do here besides relaxing. The base of Solang is given over to horse riding, with a number of ponies to choose from. A vast snowfield and one of the best slopes which is safe and secure for both tourist and skier, Solang is one of the most attractive areas in India. One can expect a lot of skiing and paragliding here. The best time to ski here is in the months of January and February.
