Teesta-Rangeet Tourism Carnival in Darjeeling Darjeeling:
The Teesta-Rangeet tourism carnival has many things to offer to the
tourists who visit Darjeeling--river rafting, ethnic Gorkhali cuisine
and cultural shows. Organised at the confluence of Teesta and Rangeet,
the holy rivers of Darjeeling, the festival was organised in the Kalimpong
sub-division in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. It was aimed at transforming
the area around Teesta-Rangeet into a popular tourist destination. Subhash
Ghising, the Chairman of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council inaugurated the
six-day carnival which has been organised by the Tourism Department. "Teesta-
Rangeet are holy rivers of Darjeeling. To turn it into a tourist spot
and for the development of Darjeeling we have organised this 6-day Teesta-
Rangeet festival. We have invited cultural troupes from Nepal and also
different cultural troupes of Darjeeling. The people will perform tribal
dance," said B K Ghising, Information Director of Tourism Department,
Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council. Tribals coming from different parts of
Darjeeling showcased their traditional dances and gave brilliant performances.
The visiting tourists looked thoroughly entertained and many of them suggested
that such carnivals should be organised very often. "We are enjoying the
carnival. The weather is good. Such carnivals should be organised more
so that the tourists can come here and enjoy," said Surendra Gurung, a
tourist from Darjeeling. The highlight of the festival was river rafting
which attracted maximum people. The Tourism Department is planning to
develop the place for fishing too. The carnival concluded this Tuesday.
