Heavy rain lashes parts of Gujarat, Met Department warns fishermen

Ahmedabad: Meteorological Department on Wednesday warned fishermen in south Gujarat and Saurashtra from going to sea, as it has forecasted heavy rains with strong winds in the next 3 to 4 days. "There is a port warning and also fishermen warning for the winds. The winds are likely to be 50 to 60 kph. Strong winds are going to be there," said Kamaljit Ray, Director, Meteorological Department of Ahmedabad. People were seen wading through flooded streets as most of the shops remained closed in the state's Veraval city after rainwater flooded many low-lying areas. "It has already flooded about 5-6 inches and it is still raining heavily. Low lying areas in Veraval are flooded and 50 percent of the markets are closed," said Dinesh Bhai Raithatha.
