Mamata Banerjee flags off ladies special train in West Bengal

Kolkata: Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee kept up her promise of a 'ladies special' for harried commuters in Kolkata on Sunday. Banerjee flagged off the ladies special EMU, which will run between Howrah and Bandel stations in Kolkata. Banerjee had made the announced in her railway budget speech for this fiscal year. "What I had promised in the railway budget, we will implement those projects properly every where. People think the declarations in the budget are not implemented properly which is our duty to implement," Banerjee said. Women commuters welcome the introduction of the new train. "I find it's a very big boon for us because traveling very long distances and coming to work makes it quiet difficult when we are traveling all together when the trains are packed, if there is a train for women then we can relax and travel over long distances," said Laxmi Biswas, a daily commuter. The Western Railway first introduced Ladies' Special train in Mumbai in 1992.
