Police
water sports championship in Kashmir Srinagar:
Around 350 sportspersons representing various states from all over India are
participating in the eighth All India Police Water Sports Championship which commenced
in Srinagar on Tuesday. The venue of the inaugural ceremony, the Dal Lake, was
decorated with balloons and colourful flags of eighteen teams. These sportspersons
will contest in various events such Kayaking, Canoeing and Rowing in the weeklong
event. "It's really great that Jammu and Kashmir government have conducted this
All India Police meet here. This would further increase excitement among the police
players," said Mohammad Ali Khan, player of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
team. This is for the second time that the Jammu and Kashmir Police have got the
privilege to host this event. "We have come here for the second time. First time
we won championship here. We hope to win second time as well. We have been champions
for seven times. And we are hopeful that this time as well we would win the championship,"
said Dalip Kumar, a player of Punjab Police team. Jammu and Kashmir Police have
always been in the forefront of promoting adventure sports, thanks to its mountains,
beautiful river valleys and vast expanses of water bodies. Apart from creating
an interesting and thrilling spectacle for the audience, which may also include
many tourists, this prestigious event would also contribute to the promotion of
