Yachting
competition in Nainital Nainital:
The Indian army organised a yachting competition to popularise the sport and
give a fillip to tourism in Nainital on Sunday. The competition was held under
the aegis of the central army command. Lieutenant General J.K. Mohnati, General
Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Army Command said that the aim of organising
yaching competition was to popularise the sport among the tourists. "The main
reason behind it is to promote yachting among the tourists as the tourist season
is on and many tourists are here. Yachting is a thing of interest for the tourists
and it causes no pollution as well. People remain in good health and we hope that
Nanital Lake should remain in very good condition," said General Mohnati. Somya,
a tourist said that the scenic spot was perfect for yachting. "We are feeling
very good and we are standing on the Boat House club and you can see below that
yacht race is going on. It is so enjoyable. Mountains are so good and sunlight
is pleasant we are feeling very pleasant here," she added. The army also aimed
to create awareness about containing the pollution levels in the famous Naini
Lake. Felling of trees and rapid urbanization in Nanital has led to large amounts
of silt flowing into lakes in the area. . -Jun
