to Leh Himalayan bike rally flagged off in New Delhi New
Delhi: The sixth edition of the 'Himalayan Odyssey 2009' that will test the
endurance of 62 bikers on rough hilly terrain was flagged off from New Delhi on
Saturday. The Odyssey offers the best way to the 'Enfield' bike lovers from different
parts of the country to put their wheels, hearts, spirits and beats together,
to experience the mighty Himalayan mountain ranges from the saddles of their motorbikes.
The 15-day adventure ride will traverse about 2500km through some of the roughest
terrains, breathtaking corners, and highest mountain passes in the world. "We
are going from Delhi to Leh along with our entire troupe. There are around 50-60
members and all would be going on their Royal Enfields," said Anil, a biker from
Bangalore . Passing through the Khardung La pass, the world's highest motorable
road, this bike rally promises to be the toughest, highest and most thrilling
ride above sea level. "It's a new experience and would learn new things. And will
see different things," said Shantanu Vibhor , a biker from Kolkata. While safety
is the main concern, the basic pre-requisite for participation is that the bikers
have to be physically fit, although a doctor is always available on demand. A
division of Eicher Motors Limited, Royal Enfield Motorcycles has been a pioneer
of clean four-stroke technology in India from 1955. It is one of the oldest motorcycle
companies in the world. The Himalayan Odyssey will conclude in New Delhi on June
