Landslide blocks highway in West Bengal

     Siliguri: Landslide following heavy rains snapped road links to the hills of West Bengal and Sikkim on Wednesday. Landslides occurred in Siliguri district when stretches along the National Highway -31A between Doars and Kalimpong regions caved in under torrential rain. The highway also links Siliguri with Sikkim . "Due to rains landslide it became difficult for vehicles and for people to cross as the road got blocked. This happened during night and since morning all the vehicles are stranded," said Sheetal Thapa, a resident. No loss of life or property has been reported. "There has been no damage to any vehicle or person. Only the traffic got disrupted," said Sameer Banerjee, a police official. Police and the people along with Border Roads Organisation (BRO) workers were trying to remove the debris.
