Two swine flu patients cured in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Two swine flu cases have been cured in Coimbatore, according to medical authorities here. Dean of Coimbatore Medical College hospital, Dr Kumaran, on Saturday said they were the only two confirmed swine cases in the city. "In Tamil Nadu, only two cases have been confirmed in Coimbatore. The two cases have been already treated and sent home after cure," said Dr Kumaran. He added that one more swine flu suspect, who recently returned from California, has been admitted to the hospital. His test reports have been sent for examination and results are awaited. Earlier, the World Health Organisation (WHO) had noted that the spread of H1N1 flu in Australia, Britain, Chile, Japan and Spain has nudged the world closer to a pandemic. Reportedly, the new strain of swine flu has infected almost 30,000 people in over 70 countries including 145 fatal cases. Mexico, United States and Canada have borne the brunt of the illness while research work is still on to formulate an effective vaccine to counter the pandemic.
