Passengers at India-Nepal border being checked for swine flu

Lucknow: In the wake of several cases of swine flu (H1N1 virus) reported from various places in India , authorities in Uttar Pradesh have intensified surveillance along the India-Nepal border. Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, Dr. I S Srivastava, Director General, Health Services, Uttar Pradesh, said that a team of immigration unit along with fully equipped para-medical personnel have been assigned at India-Nepal border to screen and conduct health check-up of passengers arriving from across the border. "The entire health unit is there to check people coming by all means of transport, both air and road, to ascertain any suspected case of swine flu," he added. Meanwhile, interacting with the reporters in the national capital, Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia has said that the government is charting out a disaster management plan to tackle any eventuality. "The situation has not arisen that we need to negotiate with private hospitals. Right now we are planning a disaster management plan because anytime such flu might spread, which may take a violent turn later," Walia added. So far, a total of 68 people have been found positive for swine flu across the country, out of which 32 patients have been treated as inpatients in isolation wards and discharged.
