flu Reports Swine
flu case suspected in Moradabad Moradabad:
Doctors at the District Hospital of Moradabad have isolated and quarantined
a patient after he showed symptoms similar to the pandemic swine flu on Friday.
Exporter by profession, the patient had recently returned to Moradabad from a
European tour. Three days after his return, he developed fever and his family
doctor advised him to undergo a check-up for H1N1 influenza. "Three days after
my return, I felt fever today around 4:30 in the morning. So I took paracetamol
and the fever subsided. But I consulted my family doctor and told him that my
fever is around 99 degrees but the doctor said they want to take test because
they don't want to take any risk," he said. Consequently, a team of specialists
rushed from Lucknow to collect certain samples of blood and urine of the patient
to be sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) for further
analysis. "We have collected a sample that we will send to the National Institute
of Communicable Diseases. The institute will test the sample and confirm it to
be positive or negative. Right now we are taking all the precautions," said Dr.
Mayank Dwivedi, a member of the team. The first confirmed case of swine flu in
India was reported from Hyderabad. According to the World Health Organisation
(WHO), around 7,500 people have been infected with the influenza strain that is
a mixture of swine, bird and human viruses. So far, the H1N1 flu has claimed 65
lives in 34 countries. -May
